چکیده

A microsporogenesis analysis performed in several Citrus populations revealed the presence of cytomixis (i.e., chromatin migration between meiocytes) in pollen mother cells of diploid and tetraploid genotypes. Single and double chromatin bridges between adjacent meiocytes were mainly observed at prophase I, but also in the subsequent phases of first division and in the second meiotic division. The percentage of cytomictic cells in the genotypes examined was quite variable. In addition to cytomixis, other meiotic abnormalities were observed, in both the first and second meiotic divisions. The cytomictic plants showed lower values of pollen viability compared to the control plants. A possible relationship between the occurrence of cytomixis, pollen viability and the reduced fertility of Citrus populations is discussed. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________

گزینش گامتوفیتی تحمل شوری در برخی ارقام مرکبات

Citrus species are classified as a sensitive group of trees to salt stress, but the levels of their sensitivity or tolerance to salt are different among cultivars. In order to evaluate the effects of salinity stress on pollen germination of some citrus cultivars, an experiment was performed in factorial, based on completely randomized design in three replications with Cleopatra mandarin (Citrus...

Pollen Competition as a Reproductive Isolation Barrier Represses Transgene Flow between Compatible and Co-Flowering Citrus Genotypes

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVE Despite potential benefits granted by genetically modified (GM) fruit trees, their release and commercialization raises concerns about their potential environmental impact, and the transfer via pollen of transgenes to cross-compatible cultivars is deemed to be the greatest source for environmental exposure. Information compiled from field trials on GM trees is essential to ...

Male meiosis, morphometric analysis and distribution pattern of 2× and 4× cytotypes of Ranunculus hirtellus Royle, 1834 (Ranunculaceae) from the cold regions of northwest Himalayas (India)

In this study, we examined the chromosome number, detailed male meiosis, microsporogenesis, pollen fertility and morphological features and distribution of 2× and 4× cytotypes of Ranunculus hirtellus Royle, 1834. The majority of the populations scored now from cold regions of the northwest Himalayas showed tetraploid (n=16) meiotic chromosome count and one of the populations studied from the Ma...

The effect of spindle inhibitors applied before meiosis on meiotic chromosome pairing.

Injection of 0-5 % colchicine into immature tillers of genotypes of Triticum aestivum, T. aestivum x Aegilops mutica and T. aestivum x Secale cereale hybrids induces asynapsis at first meiotic metaphase irrespective of the homologous or homoeologous nature of the potential pairing chromosomes. The induction of asynapsis occurs at a time during and immediately following the last premeiotic mitos...

Cytomictic Anomalous Male Meiosis and 2n Pollen Grain Formation in Mertensia echioides Benth. (Boraginaceae) from Kashmir Himalaya

Presently Mertensia echioides Benth. (Boraginaceae) collected from Kashmir Himalaya, India, is cytologically analyzed for the first time revealing 2n = 2x = 24 (diploid). Interestingly we found 4.3-6.2% syncytic meiocytes/PMCs with 2n = 4x = 48 (tetraploid) in addition to normal meiocytes (2n = 24) during male meiosis. These comparatively larger PMCs (pollen mother cells) lead to the formation ...
